MOLOY

A disabled veteran awakens in a foreign rectangle. He declares it’s his mother’s room, yet he doesn’t remember his own name. He claims to be a writer, employed by an occult group he calls “them”, though his only wish is to die.
A dramaturgical collage of fragments from the semi-autobiographical novel “Molloy” by Samuel Beckett and inspired by the writer’s war experience, the theatre production “Moloy” investigates the labyrinthine and unromanticized story of one of the millions of unknown soldiers who physically carry out not only the en masse crimes of war but also those that follow wars, under the impact of moral depletion brought on by the repetitive experience of total desensitization and the inevitable post-trauma.
A production by Moloy Corporation LLC (Isle of Man), the play is part of the first stage of an experimental pilot project for non-probationary moral rehabilitation of war criminals through theatre, designed for global implementation between 2030 and 2035.
Actor Laurențiu Stan, known for his cinematic role as Father Stavros in the film Between Pain and Amen (Dir. Toma Enache, available on HBO Max), makes his second appearance at Collage Festival after starring in last year’s independent theatre production of “On Belonging” (Dir. Andrei Stan). He is also the originating dramaturge of “Moloy”.
Doru Drăgoi is a theatre director and multidisciplinary artist, with a BA and a MA graduate in Theatre Directing at UNATC Bucharest (2007–2012), published and awarded author in poetry, dramaturgy, visual arts and short film, director and dramaturge of the play “Coin Locker Babies” (2014, National Theatre Bucharest), an international premiere theatrical adaptation of the novel by Ryu Murakami. He returns to the stage after a significant period devoted artistically to literary writing and, more recently, digital collage.
