Collage Talks with Dan Popescu
As part of Collage Festival’s Talks series, Dan Popescu will share insights into Romanian collage art and the rise of an artist who defied conventions — Ion Bârlădeanu.
Founder of H’Art Gallery in Bucharest, Dan Popescu played a key role in discovering, supporting, and promoting Ion B. internationally. His talk will explore:
how the encounter between curator and collage artist took place;
the challenges of introducing Ion B.’s works to the global art scene;
the mechanisms behind building the reputation of a “nonconventional” artist;
and how collage, often seen as marginal, can become a universal artistic language.
The audience will have the chance to discover not only a unique artistic journey but also a forward-looking perspective: what it means to champion marginalized artists and how Romanian collage can find its place in the international discourse.
This is a moment of reflection and inspiration for anyone passionate about collage, contemporary Romanian art, and the path an artist takes towards true recognition.
Dan Popescu
A philosophy graduate, gallery owner, interested and challenged by art, Dan Popescu launched the H’art Gallery in Bucharest. Fascinated by contemporary art, as a different kind of path that leads categorically to knowledge.
He has been working for about twenty years with five generations of artists, but has a special relationship with the creators of his own generation, who are also the ones with whom he opened the gallery in 2002; among them are Dumitru Gorzo, Gili Mocanu, and Nicolae Comănescu.
The Collage Talks will take place at the Green Hours terrace, starting 5 p.m.
