WHA Hunter is a Scottish born artistic activist. She currently lives and works in Naarm, Australia. For the last 30 years Walsh has worked as an activist across Australia and Internationally. Her work supports intersectional and abolitionist community-led reimagining and change for family violence, gender inequity and anti-racism praxis through arts-based programs and initiatives. In 2024 Walsh completed her Diploma in Visual Arts at NCAT and has participated in several group exhibitions in Naarm since 2023. Walsh has sold work in Australia and internationally. As an artistic activist WHA is an observer of power, specifically that of white capitalist patriarchal systems that continue to block all possibilities for social change at all levels of our society. WHA is deeply curious about cut through messages, sometimes humorous, that support individuals and communities to have conversations and take collective action for substantial change. WHA draws on a wide range of influences including First People’s ongoing activism and methodologies; abolitionist movements; intersectional feminism; and anti-racism praxis. WHA is inspired and motivated by political collage and text-based movements, First People’s political art, feminist collective arts, and political protest and post punk graphics.
