Ioana Cristodorescu (b. 1999, Galați) is a graduate of the National University of Arts in Bucharest, holding a master’s degree in painting, completed in 2023. During her studies, she was awarded a scholarship at Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan. In 2021, she moved to Berlin, where she undertook an internship at Galerie Plan B.
The artist seeks to reflect the temperament of a world that appears fragile despite its surface confidence. Through large-scale canvases flooded with imaginary characters and everyday situations, she captures a “cinematic” world on the verge of self-discovery, lurking in vices and opulence. Stylistically aligned with German Expressionism, her works convey an observed reality through bold lines, broad strokes, fractured contours, and angular figures—depicting people who pose and are being posed.
